Radioactive Bluefin Tuna From Japan's Fukushima Nuclear Plant Found Off California Coast

Jessica Menton | May 29, 2012 11:22am EDT | 2min:47sec

On Tuesday the Japanese government said it expected it would have to look at the international monitoring of radioactive fish products following the discovery of a tainted tuna caught off the coast of southern California, but first needed more information.

Low levels of nuclear radiation from the tsunami-damaged Fukushima power plant have turned up in bluefin tuna off the California coast, suggesting that these fish carried radioactive compounds across the Pacific Ocean faster than wind or water can. Scientists reported on Monday small amounts of cesium-137 and cesium-134 were detected in 15 tuna caught near San Diego in August 2011, about four months after these chemicals were released into the water off Japan's east coast.

According to NOAA,the only problem with the Tuna is "mercury" which is below the problem area......all fisheries have some kinds of minerals in the flesh....You would have to eat two tons a day to create a low glow!...LOL! Bikini Atoll had more radiation, and the fish lived...Another scare tactic to keep us dependent on oil...[:o)]

Willie why is it every time I post important information you make light of it? The levels are in fact small but they are accumulative and especially in young children. The article was not to
scare the public, but to inform.

I have read in another article that radiation levels are still something like 10 times less than the normal safety limit for human consumption.
At present Radon gas is still a greater threat to Americans in terms of radiation hazard than anything that came over here from Japan.
