Georgia Aquarium.....field trip...metal detectors

My middle child had a field trip last week. They went to the Georgia Aquarium and she described the bums and drug deals they saw near Atlanta....but not one thing was said about the fish or the Aquarium at all. She said they had to go through metal detectors and if you had a pocket knife they gave you a claim ticket for your item. I can't help but wonder just how they would have handled me....and my Springfield along with two pocket knives. (I keep one because its cool and the other is because I don't want to mess up the cool one.) I cannot see handing over my firearm to someone I don't know in exchange for a claim ticket. I think I would have had to sit outside.....who knows. Anyone else have a metal detector issue in an unexpected place?

Yeh, My local bank installed whats called a man trap. It consists of two heavy plexiglass doors with a metal detector between them.

After you enter the first door, you step thru a metal detector, then stop for the second door. After the door behind you shuts & locks, the second door will give you a green light (if the metal detector does not pick anything up) and you can step into the bank.

I didnt know this had been installed and walked in carrying my Glock 19. The system never detected it and let me in.

    So much for security systems.

Yep! When I was young, I lived in Germany and had a Stilleto (spring action knife). We went out to eat and the Officer's club, I didn't realize that they had a metal detector. I RAN all the way back to our house and put the knife away and then ran back. About a 20 minute run both ways.

Visited the Virgina State Capitol w/ grandkid on a weekend. Metal detector- hmmmmm..... "Excuse me- I have a CCW, and I am carrying. Problem?" "Do you have your CCW with you, sir? If so, could I see it, please?" "Sure, here you go." "Thank you, sir. Please walk around the detector, and have a nice visit." [:p]

Had jury duty last year. Walked in and told the guy that my hips would set off the detector. They did. I told him I had a card if he wanted to see it but he declined.

My issue when I went there 2 years ago was that they didn't allow outside food/drinks - unless it was the same brand they sold. So our Aquafina got taken away, but if it had been Dasani it would've been ok.

I hate to ask but Where do you live? Hell, where I live you dont even have to pre-pay for gasoline. If I had to go through all of that to enter a bank, I'd hate to see the procedure to enter some other places.
