A "what if" and "what would you do"

Say you stop at a garage sale, A little old lady is selling her wares, and you are looking around and don't see any guns, she ask "can I help you", you reply " just looking around, I collect guns and I guess there isn't any". Then she say's "my hubert had a few, he died a few months back, and I don't know what they are or worth". Then goes and gets three guns, A 1911 45, a M1 Garand, and what you know as a full auto WW2 gun. Ok, the questions......
1.Would you offer her a reasonable price for the first two, the tell her what the other one is and warn her, and advise her to turn it in.
2. Offer very little for all of them.
3. Offer a reasonable price for all of them, and say nothing about the full auto.
Hypothetical, but, it could happen.

Seeing as how I read somewhere that someone said congress shall make no laws restricting the rights of the people to own guns. I would offer a resonable price for all.

I'd give her fifty bucks and tell her it was a pile of rust. Be doing her a favor to get the machine gun off of her property before atf thugs beat her up amd arrested her.

I'd call the guys... and raid the place...

For anything usefull.. =o) I love such little markets, as it's fun to see what is laying around.

I don't know what I'd do, but would probably make a fair deal if possible and I wouldn't get my bum in trouble.

Ask her for $50. to haul them off for her. And another fifty bucks for all Hubert's crappy machine tools collecting dust in the shed.

I'm in the midst of that right now - except no fully auto
stuff but a nice 15 piece collection. His name was Bill,
    also.

I'm going to buy seven of them.

I'm offering a reasonable price for all of them.af682ab6.gif

...ask her if there were any "chores" that needed doin, and if there were, round up some illegals to do 'em on the cheap, in turn for the guns.
If there were no chores, I'd ask to see the 1911, slap a full mag in, rack, and plug her...make it look like a commie pinko, lefty liberal did it...and the guns would all be mine, mine I tell you! Mine!...[;)]

I would tell her what she has.....offer to sell them for her and point out that selling guns out of her home can lead to trouble unless you are experienced, so if she let me take care of the sale...she could get top dollar and she could pay me fairly.

If you do like I did you'll sleep VERY good at night like I do. I bought a 50 gun lot and blue booked the whole damn thing for her. Then I made an offer and SHE lowered the price, subsequently I wound up with a real nice collection including a thompson and the holiest of holy's in the Python world..A guess at which Python??

Tell her she is is facing so much jail time her grandkids are going to have to finish out her sentence. Then tell her you know a way to make the whole problem disappear.

I met an old guy at my neighborhood pool a couple years ago and we started talking about guns. He primarily collected black powder weapons but he told me about how he bought an M-1 Carbine from his brother in law about twenty years ago and when he looked at it realized it was a selective fire weapon. He said he's kept it hidden ever since. I've been keeping track of the old guy, wondering if i should ever bring the subject up again.

My quess would have to be a 3" Python!

Back to the original post...I have run into this a few times(except the machine gun) and made a fair deal to get the person top dollar for everything except what I want for myself and use that as payment(and sometimes pay a little more out of pocket if it's something really valuable.)

...Happy, you bring up a good point. Since I can't plug her...cause I'm not criminally inclined, and I don't want to * her...I would be forced into doing the unthinkable, pay her a fair price...[:D]

hugh Heck, bring it up when you see him...if he is worried to death about having it, offer him a fair price to alleviate him of his worry...shoot, he may be so grateful/relieved...that he may make you a heck of a deal...better you than some nut that may turn it in to be ground into scrap when he's gone...[;)]

No can do, unless of course it happened to be registered back in the day, and being the owner died I don't know how that would even turn out now. If it wasn't registered before 1986, no amount of money will register it.

Back to topic, I would make her as reasonable of offer as I could on her collection. If I couldn't afford to offer close to what they were worth, I'd tell her that and before leaving give her my opinion of their value and what she had.

i would immediately call the atf and report her for owning an evil highly dangerous automatic weapon which likely would go off at the slightest touch and slaughter a thousand neighborhood kids.

hello atf, for the record I am totally unarmed, I have no guns whatsoever, please dont hurt me

Not a ATF sting, just a Ethical question I thought, what would I do. And then, would someone else do something different.

...About 3' long, and probably 1/16" on the buisness end...she could make a green switch "sing" on these little skinny bare legs, no worse for wear...[;)]

That was my attempt at humor, see I figured this elaborate little web that this little old lady weaved to entrap a passer by who just by chance happened to ask about guns and then she would spring a automatic weapon into the hands of a unsuspecting rube and then have him arrested for possessing it.....................well never mind. Hey did you all know its Mental health day only a couple of hours of shopping left.

Bloviator: just a little off subject but to reply to your choice of switches. We had peach trees and those damn peach trees made for fine switches. After going to the tree 5 or 6 times for appropriate switches, she would put them all together and wear my little butt out. Tom

I would do as most would I expect, offer the fairest possible price for what she had, and would then explore the concept of geo-cacheing.... (spelling is an optional extra [:D])

Never know when it could come in handy in these troubled times....[B)]

I would probably scream like a girl and faint. After I woke up I would offer her a fair price and apologize for fainting. What the feds dont know cant hurt me..... I think.
