Knife Question

I was given a Gerber Harsey Ranger knife. For those of you unfamiliar with this model,it is a liner lock style, metal handle and has the little knob at the back of the blade to assist in one hand opening. I know very little about knives, although I have carried a pocket knife for 55 plus years, so my question is this; I showed it to a fellow who seemed to know a bit about knives and he was opening it one handed by initating blade movement with the little knob then flipping his wrist to open the blade fully. Is this correct practice? It seems to me to be akin to flipping a revolver cylinder shut with a twist of the wrist. I find his method of opening handy, but certainly don't want to dammage the knife and appear stupid at the same time. I use this knife probably a dozen time a day so it gets opened and closed a lot.

What do you use for your big game skinning/gutting knife.
I am still useing the same Buck 112 folder That I have had for years.
I sharpened it before hunting season this year and gutted 2 deer and caped 4 and helped skin 4.
The blade is still sharp enough to skin another deer and maybe more.
I have yet to find a better hunting knife with a blade better than the old Buck 112.

While at my Sister-in-laws place this weekend I ran across a knife (sorry no pic) that has a brass grip shaped into brass knuckles. The words USA 1918 were stamped into the side of the grip. the blade appeared to be carbon steel and was about 8" plus. The grips were not polished and the casting sand marks were visible. Is this knife what was refered to as a knuckle duster trench knife or is it more than likely a rip off made to appeal to the mass market?

My son just received this knife as a hand me down. I believe this was carried by my grandfather during WWII. I am trying to learn a bit about it. I suspect that it may be a bayonet. The hilt also has 2 holes on the back side of the blade. The only markings are on the hilt. It is stamped "CAMILLUS N.Y. 3-1967"

Does anyone have any info about it?

S.O.A V-42 Marine Dagger. The question is why does it have Marine in the title when its a Army Special Forces Knife.

It's a beautiful knife, but why is there that notch cut in the blade?

The bulldog knife company. Are the knives still made in Germany?
Are the new ones still good quality?

What is this for? I found it in a box of junk. The blade is thin, like a razor blade, and the ring is aluminum.

Is this blade supposed to look that way?

If so, how do you achieve that kind of finish on steel?

I had one of those but it was stolen at Ft. Gordon, Ga. in 1974. I got a Puma Trail Boss at Patch Barrecks in Germany in 1975. Its a little longer, a little lighter and a lot thinner in the grip. On elk its still to short for rectum work. A 9" belt knife or the multi blade Kershaw kit does the job better.

An old Case Sodbuster jr folder. Use it on everything from skinning deer to skinning electric wire. I have other knives but that one's always in my pocket.
