What do spammers hope to accomplish when posting junk like the "Mack truck shirt" thread?

It makes no sense. What do they hope will happen when they post it?

Just curious as to why they would even waste the time to post.

    One in 100,000 will actually order one.I guess if 1,000,000 see the ad,10 may order...
    What do U think they do it for?

    Question for you, would you spend 2 minutes to make $50, the spammers think that the time they spend posting will pay off

    Most do it with automated addressing. Afer harvesting addresses from the internet, they can send it to 100's of thousands or even millions of addresses for free. Even if they get a tiny fractional response, it makes money. It's kind of like if you could advertise your sale to every postal address in the country for free. Almost everyone will throw out the notice, but that tiny response pays the bills, especially if mailing is free. In the distant past, advertisers had to balance their mail out effort with the cost of postage and try to target the postcards to the right demographic of LIKELY buyers. Now that email, newsgroup, and forums addresses are basically free, they don't bother targeting the recipients. They just send it everywhere. [xx(]

    Not much of a reply seeing that there is nothing to click on in their post. Just a bunch of gibberish no links or anything. I could see it if there were links or clickable areas, but not when there is nothing but lines and lines of nonsense.
