Seller shipped my handgun by UPS Ground!

Do you ever hear horror stories about FFL holders getting chewed up and spit out by the ATF? Well, here's a perfect example of one that should be. I purchased a handgun on Monday with the understanding that it would ship the following day (Tuesday). Well, it did. However, by UPS Ground and it won't be here until next Monday! I expected it to arrive today and made arrangements to meet a few buddies at the range to check it out. I'm still going to the range this afternoon, but I'm disappointed that I can't shoot the new pistol until late next week. Oh well, patience is a virtue (that I don't really have). [B)]

Over night is NOT a BATFE rule. It is a UPS rule.

+1, he broke no federal rules. But, if you spent the extra money to have it overnighted (and I assume you did since its a pistol), the FFL owner owes you an explanation and a refund for the shipping costs.

I thought it was a UPS requirement that handguns be shipped via Overnight. How did he get away with shipping it ground?

Over night for handguns is not law, it's policy bt UPS and Fed-Ex and they can deny insurance claims if lost and sent by ground but no legal issued involved.

I throw a cheap knife in the box with the gun and insure the "collector" knife for $600.

Good luck Saxon, on collecting on a claim like that.
You must prove "value",......otherwise you could ship a used diaper, and claim it is worth 500 bucks.
    Very bad advice.[xx(]

+1 You must declare it is a firearm to the shipper, (that is fed law) I wonder if he used USPS instead? that is the cheapest way to ship a handgun. I would ask the seller for a tracking number[:D]

It is a UPS rule but I beleive I did read in my BATFE book that when shipping firearms you must follow the shippers rules. So that might make it illegal I do not have time to find the page right now but you could find it on www.atf.gov.

Yep, I paid $47.75 for overnight (Red Label) shipping. [:(] I calculated the reverse shipment back by Ground UPS to cost $11.60. Cost really isn't as big of a factor as principal, but I am a little pissed about paying that much for nothing. [:(!]

I had confused the ATF and UPS shipping requirements. Thank you to those that pointed my error out. [^]

I haven't received it yet. It's due to arrive next week (instead of today as anticipated). [:(]

The shipping dealer could've sent it USPS, as long as it's going to your dealer and the proper form is filled out.

Can't go wrong with Priority Mail.
