FDA: 3 die from illness linked to ice cream
Updated Fri Mar 13, 2015 7:13 PM EDT
Officials say three people have died after developing a foodborne illness linked to Blue Bell ice cream products.
That prompted the first product recall in the Texas creamery's 108-year history.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says five people in all developed listeriosis in Kansas after eating products from one production line at the Blue Bell creamery in Brenham, Texas.
The FDA says listeria bacteria were found in samples of Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Country Cookies, Great Divide Bars, Sour Pop Green Apple Bars, Cotton Candy Bars, Scoops, Vanilla Stick Slices, Almond Bars and No Sugar Added Moo Bars.
Blue Bell says its regular Moo Bars were untainted, as were its half gallons, quarts, pints, cups, three-gallon ice cream and take-home frozen snack novelties.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
Listeriosis, a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, is an important public health problem in the United States. The disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems. However, rarely, persons without these risk factors can also be affected. The risk may be reduced by recommendations for safe food preparation, consumption, and storage.
Consumers should not eat any of the products listed above. If these ice cream products are in your freezer, they should be thrown away, even if some of them have been eaten without anyone becoming ill.

OK I'm sorry, that was just wrong of me.[:(]
You can guess, but you just might be wrong too.
The Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham TX is a pretty high class operation. It is almost a shrine in TX. You can even take tours of the facility.
The machine responsible for this contamination has been taken off line, and the items it effected were food stuff that was not for sale to the public.
Any Ice Cream products you have in your freezer at home that were bought at your local store are OK for consumption.

Instead of spitting it out,I swallowed it and grabbed another.
20-30 min. later,I was SICK!!! Both ends.
Lasted all night..
Next day I was nowhere near 100% but got thru the work day..
NEVER AGAIN!! I taste something that tastes a bit "off",I spit it right out..
I'm thinking Listeria" is a tasteless odorless containment so,Prob. wouldn't be able to just spit it out..
