Anyone recommend a substitute?

For 40 years I have loaded handgun ammo with 2 powders, 2400 for Magnums and Unique for everything else. But now Unique appears to be MIA. I can't fins any and dealers say they haven't gotten any in 6 months with no idea when more may be available. No clue why Unique is scarce but it is. Haven't checked on the 2400 situation, yet.

I need some replacements. It seems Accurate #5 may be good to replace Unique and #9 may work for 2400 if it can no longer be found. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Can these (#5 & #9) be readily obtained or are they also rare on the shelf? Any other recommendations? Like to keep it simple with 2 powders.

I am hunting high and low for both. I have about three pounds of unique, which I reload in most magnums and one pound of 2400 that I reload my 22 hornet and 218 bee with. Rocky turned me on to 2400 and i love that stuff. I will look for you this next weekend at the huge gun show. We are also going to several gun shops next week end. Doc, what is your max spending on powder per pound????? I haven't priced it in a while. I will ship it to you if I find any. I just wrote it down in my little gun show book. I will also check with my dad tomorrow and see if he has any he wants to part with. Oakie

There are too many to list.

You might want to check out the Ramshot powders also like True Blue and Enforcer

Hogden "Lil" Gun is great powder in everything from 41 mag to 45-70

The Vihta Vouri powders are really nice and they come in 2# jugs.

N330 is about equivalent to Unique
    N320 is about like WW231
Tin star is a bulky powder designed for cowboy shooting
    N105 is like H110

VV is what Lapua loads their ammo with and it is very consistent but a little more expensive.

You are just going to have to look around and experiment. I have really started liking the Ramshot powders and the VV powders. I can find them and they are as good or better than the old stand bys.

    YMMV

Oakie- Thanks but you finding powder won't help me. Shipping cost with outrageous "Hazmat Stealing" I mean "Hazmat Fee" makes it way too costly to be cost efficient.

Still hoping somebody is using something that can actually be found.

Try Hogden Lil Gun in the Hornet and the bee I think you will be surprised at how good it works. You may have to use a drop tube(I do) to get the powder to compact enough to seat the heavier 50 and 52 gr bullets.

I also ran short on Unique so I just bought a large quantity of Bullseye to finish a large order of 38's and 9mm's for my dad, wouldn't you know that right after I bought the 8lb of Bullseye I walked into a local shop and they had just received 10 1lb bottles of unique[:(!]

Now if I could only find some 8208XBR.....[xx(]
