Washing machine help please

Wife's GE top loader does everthing correctly until the spin cycle. It will spin and displace most of the water, but it will just continue this cycle until manually stopped and then there is still an inch or so of water in the bottom. It has an electric pump that seems to be functioning. Any ideas or suggestions?

Thx, AT

If the pump is working correctly it will pump all the water and not leave one inch the machine is waiting for all the water to be pumped out before going to next cycle.

Suction line on the pump is probably bad or clogged.

Usually that happens when the pump is partially plugged. Different layouts with different models, but the pump is usually designed to be cleaned periodically and often has some sort of coarse filter inside.

Sometimes in top loaders, socks, ladies panties or something else gets between the tub and the tub housing. They can block off the pump pickup. In the old models, other than removing the tub, the only way to get them out was to go fishing with a metal coat hanger with a hook on the end.

    Rarer but it does happen.
There is a can looking thing in there that is actually a diaphragm sandwiched between two shallow metal cups. There is a piece of small tubing coming off the diaphragm, disconnect it and blow through it. The rubber tubing gets full of soap, makes the diaphragm for the water level sluggish. The pump stops pumping before all the water is out and/or the machine refuses to go into the next cycle.
