Chalk up another win for the president-elect?
Toyota is set to make a $10 billion capital investment in the U.S. over the next five years, Toyota Motor North America chief executive Jim Lentz said during an interview at the Detroit auto show, Reuters reported.
The $10 billion figure matches Toyota's investments from the previous five years.
The move follows similar commitments to U.S. production made by competitors Ford and Fiat Chrysler.
Donald Trump on Thursday specifically targeted Toyota in a tweet.
"Toyota Motor said will build a new plant in Baja, Mexico, to build Corolla cars for U.S. NO WAY! Build plant in U.S. or pay big border tax," Trump tweeted.
On Monday morning, Trump lauded Ford and Fiat Chrysler for their recent announcements in a pair of tweets.
"It's finally happening - Fiat Chrysler just announced plans to invest $1BILLION in Michigan and Ohio plants, adding 2000 jobs. This after Ford said last week that it will expand in Michigan and U.S. instead of building a BILLION dollar plant in Mexico. Thank you Ford & Fiat C!" he tweeted.

Love my truck, but a 50/50 chance of dying every drive makes it so exciting!
The president-elect's tweet sent shares of Japanese automakers makers sliding today. An angry Japanese government and corporate establishment pushed back against Trump's criticism of Toyota.
"Toyota is responsible for large employment at U.S. plants such as in Kentucky. It's questionable whether the new U.S. president has a grasp of how many vehicles Toyota builds in the U.S.," said Taro Aso, Japan's finance minister. Hiroshige Seko, minister for trade and industry, added that the Japanese government would do its part to explain to the new U.S. administration about the contribution of the country's car industry to the U.S. economy.

Toyotas explanation included annoucing spending Billions on new facilities in the U.S.
Noticed some statements about Trump imposing fines because Toyota was building a plant in Mexico. WRONG
Toyota would pay a tariff or whatever they choose to call it, on every car IMPORTED from Mexico to the U.S.
Nothing wrong with Toyota building a plant in Mexico. Toyota would be able to sell all their production to the Mexicans or where ever else they wish. Even the U.S.,, just pay the duty,, like every other country.
