It's at the outdoor range that I go to. So I wanted to give it a try, and showed up 15 minutes ahead of the listed practice time to be courteous. Three guys in the small club house, the young kid who help the the late 70's guy that runs it and a younger fellow that has driven a big pickup with a trailer full of targets.

So the two young guys were in the trap houses, the older fellow was on the ground making sure the roller conveyor stayed in place and the FNG, me, was on the trailer picking up boxes of targets and bending over putting them on the conveyor.

Right about the start of the 3rd pallet some others showed up and there was a lot less bending after that. Shooting was fun, I have a lot to learn! But I taking some naproxen for my back and upper legs!

Maybe I'll try the indoor range today for pistols [:)]

If you had fun, then it was time well spent.

Advise from a long-time shooter: Keep your head tight on the stock and flex your knees. It is one of those sports that can be competitive or non-competitive. Have fun!

And rotate at the waist, knees just wider than your shoulders.

Set up exactly the same every time and you will be more consistent.

Trap is traditionally a 12ga sport, but there is a reason why most competition trap guns weigh 8-10 lbs, it is to steady the gun and to soak up recoil. I shot Skeet for many years and never used anything other then a 410 or 28ga, guys would come out with 12ga hunting guns and get the crap beat out of them, but my 1100's were over 8lbs so there was no recoil, I could shoot all day without a issue.

I tried sporting clays for the first time last year and got hooked. I was using an 870 wingmaster pump[:o)] Not great, but I did okay. I am now looking for a good Ruger red label so I can shoot with the big boys and not look so stupid. They were all breaking my balls until they saw I could hit a lot of the targets with it. I borrowed my dad's Ithaca over and under last time out and did really poor. Maybe I should stick with the pump.

Glad you had fun Bob. Try skeet and sporting clays once you get the trap down pat. It is a lot harder, but a lot more fun. Oakie

Oakie: I have a 3" Redlabel and loved shooting it, but after one extended day shooting with the result being spitting blood from the inside of my cheek I went back to my 1100. I would rather feel good, and shoot well than look good.

My wife got me an 1100 last year and I have yet to shoot it. Maybe I will give that a whirl one weekend soon. Thanks for the advice[;)][:)].Oakie

If your having trouble with recoil try a Kick-EZZ recoil pad or other good pads.[:)] Love my Red Label
