Is it " OK " to go to VietNam??

Being an American, I have some concerns.I have a chance to go over for free, with my nephew. He'll be doing presentations, in 6 cities, for his employer.

3 in So.Vietnam, 2 in N Vietnam, and 1 in Cambodia. I have a passport,no prob there. I would like to know, mostly,if it's "SAFE". And some ideas what to do for "kicks" (other than the 14yo. hookers)

Vietnam is completely safe. I have a family member who does business there. Its far safer than America.
If your family member wouldn't mind, i'd realy like to know a bit more. I'm sure alot more folks from here will be "chiming-in" soon.
If not, would you be willing to get my email to your "Cuz"??

BTW,,, Welcome to the GB fam.

As do I Heff. Fact is. I seldom get to visit the "other side of the world". I have many friends and family members, that fought and died there. I need to ask my self, i guess, if we were fighting the people of the country, or if it was the fugged-up RULERS, of that country, that we were at war with.
The wife and I, no doubt, will have the recourses to go there, if we want, in the very near future. I have a chance to go NOW. For the price of my food/lodging...

They are the same communist rulers, now.

Viet Nam will never voluntarily get a nickel of my money.

Wet season now. Lots of boat travel. Better than the dry season...that is, if 1/2 of a dog turd is better than a whole one. Joe

Why in the hell would anyone want to go to commie land, I mean Asia. Those folks who do business in that part of the world are just helping them build their armies so they can come over here and kick our *. That's my opinion.

One of my Uncles died there and a cousin came back with psychological problems.

If you want to see Vietnam, go head, they want the US $$, but I will not condone dealing with the Communists.

My son went and bought a new coat at a national Clothing store. Was made in Vietnam. We took it back, and looked the store over, many items were made there. Got the refund and told them we would no longer be shopping at Old Navy. Sent an email also to Old Navy main office.

Be sure and buy some diamonds there, they're cheap and easily smuggled back!

    Zebra:
Yup. Cholon diamond. 1.25 carat. "D" eye perfect..(carbon spot when louped). Offered $5k for it a few years ago. And that's from a dealer!! Paid $300 for it. Had it set into a ring when I came home from RVN. It's on my finger as I type this. Joe

EDIT: Nope. Not per. Has a carbon spot when viewed at 10X (louped). And it's a brilliant cut. Looks like flashbulbs going off in the distance when I bother to keep it clean. Joe

    That's what I'm talkin bout! If it's a "D" Devoid it's probably worth over $10K [:D][:D][:D]

I don't have a problem with the Vietnamese. It's the Canadians I don't like, or trust. Remember Scanners? Sick. And why do all Canadian women look like k.d. lang? But if you go, could you pick me up a little beer can suitcase? Mine is wearing out, finally. Oh, and a pair of tigerstripes. Thanks.

    Jeff,

Don't let others decide for you. My reasons are personal, and I doubt I could look anyone over there in the eye without some bad feelings. Still, I won't look down on you for going, I just won't go myself. I did two tours, and don't want to do three.

If i do decide to go, i don't want y'all to think i'm,,,"flying-in-the-face" of all who served, suffered, even died, for what to this day is still considered a"conflict".( I believe it was a "War")If i do go, it will be purely to expand my knowledge of our beautiful planet, and the people and customs it contains. They will NEVER convert me to Budism,or Islam. And i am sure i will think of those who went there before me, for much more serious reasons than i.

On that note.... I believe i'll hit the hay....

Go to Cambodia instead and see Angkor Watt seriously it really is something to see and I do believe one of the wonders of the world. There really is no way to describe the mass of just how big it really is.

Jeff: givette here. You're good to go. If there's any negativity here it's because (personally speaking) part of me wouldn't be comfortable with being thrust back to hearing the language, people, climate. Honestly, I'd be looking for my rifle, waiting for someone to take a shot at me. Wondering why there's no sandbags on the floorboards.

Again, you're good to go. You won't be bringing any "baggage" with you.

....and I'll bet everyone here would be interested in what you will post after your return. Joe

JEFF, go see what it,s like and report what you think about the country now. because i don,t want to go is no reason for you not to go. no hard feelings here. i had a uncle who was in the 11th airborne and fought thru the phillipine islands and had a chanch to go back in the late 50,s. when he didn,t go i ask him why and he said i don,t think you would understand, i didn,t then but i do now. happy traveling, eastbank.

If you do get to Cambodia, there's a Shooting Range that let you shoot RPG's for a couple hundred dollars. Regular Grenades and AK's are much cheaper though.

I'm not wanting to go there but the fact is that the US Govt. has nornalized relations. The only way to try and account for all of our missing in that GOD forsaken place is to get along. Let everyone form thier own opinion if it is right or wrong. How many Germans and Japaneese killed Americans ? I lost 2 Uncles whom I never got a chance to meet in WWII. I guess were buddies now ! Just my 5 cents.
