A friend of mine has a GREEN Refield scope with a Griffin and Howe mount. I haven't seen the outfit....so, I don't know what it looks like...but he was asking today if I had ever heard of such a thing and what I thought it might have gone on????
Any ideas???
He was leaning toward a Garand....I am just now starting my search for info.

Used the Remington 700.
The early ones came in green with a robust G&H mount.
was later replaced by the M40a1 rifle.
The M40A1 {winchester 70} was more common with the 10x Unertral.

pressure to save the scope from damage.
With no spring, you just push the scope back against the lock ring.
On my target .22lr guns I had the springs fairly tight. There was no need for the scope to slide with the tiny bit of recoil of the .22lr's.
Redfield once sold a repro version as a "commemorative" scope for Viet
Nam. They went for about $350 new.
If it has a mildot reticle, it is NOT a real one.
A real VN era one should be worth a LOT more.
By the way, LF look at that scope carefully.

Thank you!
Bob: Good story about Major Land. The first formal Sniper School Class in the Marine Corps during this era was ordered to be conducted at the Puuloa Rifle Range in 1962. Marines from the 1st Marine Brigade, 3rd MarDiv, FMFPac, made up this class. Major Archie Van Winkle was the OIC of Brigade Schools, and the Officers in Charge of the class were 2nd Lt's Dave Willis and George Van Orden III.

back in 1977 or so}..
the real VN scopes are worth $2000 to $4000. [:0][:0][:0][:0][:0][:0]

That is way different than the ones I have seen. I need to give him a call and ask him more details about his outfit.
That range finder scope was called the Accuutrack.

The sidemount was intended for use for the M1-C sighting system during the very earliest stages of the Vietnam war.
When I saw an AWC scope base for sale, I jumped on it, as they have never been manufactured for the civilian market. Best.
