the nickel 29's are much less common in the -2 era. everyone wanted the "dirty harry gun" (blue)
it's a steal at current bid. would be a "good buy" at $1000-1100.
i bought one last month for $1100+, and was happy to get it.

they're interesting guns; originally made for LE and military. pretty much unknown to the general public until the Dirty Harry" movie(S).
huge civilian demand caused smith to start a second production line and the guns sold well for almost 10 yrs.
the -2 guns were the first ones available to the public and are more highly regarded.
keep in mind, these guns were compared to the colt python in workmanship at the time.

I remember the first time I shot a model 29. I was a teenager and I thought I was Dirty Harry! That's a nice one.

I never knew the military angle. Why were they marketed to them?

They were not marketed to the military.
The early pre 29s and progressing til now were always marketed to and sold to individuals?

Where did you get that info about mil and LE and civilian sales???

Yeh. The 1959 Shooter's Bible has (had?) the .44 Magnum S&W listed. $120.00. Same price for bright blue or nickel. Best, Joe
