Just finished "John Adams" by David McCulloch. Currently working my way through "Gulag" by Anne Applebaum. Before "John Adams" I polished off "why the allies won," "Guns, Germs, and Steel," and "Peter the Great" by Robert Massie, plus a novel or two.

Yeah, I got nothing going on.

I need something to activate my brain. Living without pushing my imagination is boring me.

As a currently exiled member of this forum occasionally points out regarding some of us; "my lips get tired when I read too much", so these posts are about as deep as I go lately!

Is he locked out forever?Dunno, but I think I can make out MASTER written on the lock in his profile, so it looks rather firm at this point!

"The Prize" by Daniel Yergin The Epic quest for Oil, Money and Power.

I wanted to read "Twilight in the Desert" by Matthew Simmons but felt I should read "The Prize" first. "Twilight..." is about the coming Saudi oil shock and the world economy. Peak Oil Theory and how Saudi has over estimated it's reserves.

I suppose I can let it go this time. But your very presence on this thread puts it in jeopardy.

Returning this topic to its original serious intent, I am currently reading Joseph Conrad's "Lord Jim," and a commentary on Revelation by Ironside. My timing was lucky, and your question caught me in those two pursuits instead of old Sherlock Holmes paperbacks and dog-eared copies of Patrick O'Brian sea stories.

Anyone else here who is addicted to the Aubrey/Maturin series by O'Brian?

Carl Von Clausewitz "On War". It used to be the standard in all the war colleges but I feel it has been overlooked lately.

Am I the only one who has a stack (10) of books which I'm "going to read"? And the stack seems to be getting taller every year.

A dog-training book by the Monks of New Skete.

They've only mentioned Siberians once so far, and only in passing.

As in, "You poor soul. We'll pray for you."

    This doesn't bode well....
