I have a goldenrod that went teets up after about 20 months of use. Anyone know what, or if there is a warranty on these? Thanks.

I agree I have not or ever will do it but sad , that's what happens along with the buy a high dollar tool or item from clothes to generators and all inbetween ) use it once then return it ,, that's part of so many open box return's for sale at swap meets and auctions sites , they had some company the news done a segment on tv they bought all the retuned items cheep then resold them

my first go to is the manufacture they more than often will stand behind there products

The Golden Rod is not a dehumidifier. It just keeps the moisture in the safe from condensing like a light bulb. It's the heat that does it.

My Golden Rod has run continuous since 1999 without a problem.

Actually, it's an electric heat wire inside of a glass (possibly Pyrex) tube surrounded by vermiculite in a metal tube. I've yet to determine if it employs a thermostat or is self limiting by resistance. Either way, everything I read says it self limits at 150?f.

As stated, it's just an electric heater that raises the temperature inside the containment above dew point.

You could buy one hell of a lot of silica gel kitty litter and recycle it many times, assuming no cat deposits, for the same amount of money spent, and probably get better results.

I bought one many years ago but when I discovered I had to put a hole in my gun safe, I decided against it. Still have the g rod in the package around here somewhere.

Instead I use a big can of crystals which do a fine job.

I buy a metal can of dessicant. I replace it every 20 years, as the crystals eventually lose their ability to adsorb moisture.

I've had my Golden Rod in my safe for over 16 years and I've not had to do anything to it. I've not had a single gun to rust whether my safe was in the house or out in the garage. What could be easier? Swapping out that kitty litter would be an on going maintenance problem that people would eventually get tired of doing or forget.

I paid a little less than $30 bucks for my Golden Rod 16 years ago. That works out to $1.88 per year at $30 bucks. I don't know what the cost of the kitty litter is but if it's any cheaper then they're giving it away.

The same 24" Golden Rod can be purchase on Amazon now for $40.81.

my gun safe has a small hole for an electric cord...why not just place a small wattage rough service light bulb safely or two or 4 small bulbs around inside and let it go ????... i have made outdoor waterer heaters like this for years for pets ..incandescent not LED...heat is heat

I agree with you smitty, and if anyone thinks a can of gel lasts for 20 years I got a bridge to sell you.

And how many killowatts of electrons did your golden rod consume?

Lets completely ignore that hole in your safe voiding any limited fire ptotection that tin box offered.

I'm not arguing with you. You use the cat litter if that's what you like and I'll use what ever the hell I want to.
