Many TFA supporters are also interested in hunting. As such, you may want to know that TWRA is seeking comments pursuant to the instructions set forth on https://www.tn.gov/twra/news/47958 requesting public input for the 2017-2018 hunting regulations.

Several states that touch or are near to Tennessee have adopted regulations regarding expanded weapon choices for various commonly denominated big game seasons such as archery, black powder (muzzleloader) and modern firearm seasons. Tennessee has similarly designated seasons. Further, over time, Tennessee has changed the weapons that were approved for use in each such season without necessarily renaming the seasons except for clarity.

While the existing regulations provide for a modern firearm season, the black power/muzzle loader season was intended to allow hunting with a weapon class that was distinct from traditional modern centerfire firearms. TWRA is being asked to consider the proposition of expanding the classification of weapons that would legal for use on game, particularly big game, in Tennessee. https://www.tn.gov/twra/article/hunting-equipment-methods

You have the opportunity now to consider and comment to TWRA upon a rule change to allow other weapon classes to be used during the muzzle loading seasons which weapons are in line with or have less capacity than modern muzzle loaders to harvest game. These proposals include one or more of the following:

single shot rifles, single shot handguns (.35 caliber/9MM or larger) and single shot shotguns .410 or larger

high-powered air rifles (.35 caliber or larger such as the Air Force Texan) http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2015/02/hunting-with-big-bore-airguns-what-to-expect/

spears such as the Atlatl (see, e.g., http://www.wideopenspaces.com/15-point-missouri-buck-killed-primitive-atlatl/)

Each of these are weapons or weapons classes which either do not appear to be legal weapons in Tennessee at this time or which, if legal, can only be used during the modern firearms season(s). Some believe that allowing these additional weapons to be used during the muzzle loader season would have a minor impact on the number of hunters or even the harvest rates but it could allow hunters in Tennessee to explore alternative weapon choices during a season when modern centerfire firearms are not in use.

If you are interested in this topic, please review the materials and comment to TWRA through its comment procedures.

    OK:::

When I was a an avid deer hunter I really enjoyed Archery and BP rifle seasons. During rifle season I primary hunted with a handgun(scoped). I deer hunted with a Lyman GP Flintlock in 54 cal and I used round balls and Black Powder.

Here are my feelings on these hunting regulations:

    1. There should be a primitive hunting season. Black Powder Rifles either Caplock or flint, no Inlines and iron sights only. Bows No crossbows. Spears and Atlatl are fine.

    2. Modern Primitive hunting should be the week prior to Modern weapons. This is where your inlines and crossbows can hunt.

    3. Modern weapons. Whatever you want to use that is legal to take game with.

I think there should be doe days for Primitive hunting during modern hunting season. And bag limits should be higher for primitive hunting.

Sell season licenses for each type of hunting but if you have a Primitive hunting permit you can hunt all the seasons as long as you only use a Primitive weapon.

I wish my state NC allowed the use of a BP Rifle for Turkey hunting.

IMO an inline Muzzle loader shooting some type of synthetic BP topped with a scope and ignited with a shotgun primer is noting more than a SS rifle and is not in the "sprit" of primitive hunting. It is no more a Primitive weapon than the modern crossbows.

The rule is, you spell out the abbreviation at least once, preferably before introducing the abbreviation.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

Yep that's me. I hate that crap, always have. The government started that BS back in the 70s and it continued to get worse over the years. At work the majority of the people in a meeting didn't have a clue what some A hole was talking about when he was trying to impress people with his long list of acronyms. [xx(]
