my youngest son his wife and a couple friends stopped by shooting clay birds in the back yard.
I went out and talking to them my son told me my nephew had stopped by his house a few days ago complaining his wife's gun was acting up
( I did not ask which one or what caliber ) He said the cases were splitting and the primers were being knocked out ( blown out )
after some questions My son found out my nephew decided to try reloading [B)][B)]. when ask he said he was just filling the cases up with powder ,
MY son explained why his cases were blowing up and damn lucky the gun did not come apart and do a lot more damage . also gave him a quick talk on using reloading books and instructions .
LUCKY is the only way I see it

just sheer luck no one was injured .
I would have thought the fellow was smarter than such a stupid thing .
I am sure he is not the first or last to try reloading that way [:0][:0]

when I see him I am going to ask a lot of questions .
a group of the family and friends are due by in a month or so to have a back yard shoot ( and I will make sure his reloading ability has improved a 1000 % [B)] )and chew his butt for being so careless

I wouldn't chew him out, just use it as an opportunity to teach him about pressures developed in a gun, and how they build a firearm to be safe with only that much pressure.. Also before you see him buy him a reloading manual, so he knows what safe pressures have been worked up with what powders, primers, and bullet combinations.

Most people, when you chew them out, won't hear what you said. But if you tell him in a kind and loving manner how to protect himself in the future. It may sink in

Was shooting my old 357 at the range and had an oldtimer ask me how I loaded them. Asked if I poured the powder in my hand till it looked right,

I was new to loading and was using a slow burning powder. Loaded were actually light cause I was new and did not want to push it. But that slow burning powder sure did throw out some flames.[:D]

    [:I][:I][:I]
history repeating its self my story I am not ashamed to state

I almost made the same mistake when I started reloading I was about 19 years old
a fellow I met at work ( another gun nut ) told me I should reload as it was easy and cost less to shoot [;)]
so I found one of the lee 45 acp loading kits about 12 bucks I think it was a few weeks later .
I stopped by a gun shop on the way home some weeks later . I walked up to the counter ask the Old fellow he had to be at least 50 [:D][:D].
I want a can of powder and some primers and some bullets .45 of course (the only thing I got right )
needless to say he was like[B)][B)] WTH . Kid
I had no idea about reloading and all that goes with it .
I owe a lot of thanks to that fellow . he took time ( very slow day lucky for me ) to give me a crash course and sold me a reloading book and the items I needed to load the 45 acp ..
can of bullseye powder, a 100 cast 45 bullets and a box of 100 large pistol primers
He got me off to a great start . I think about him every time I reload and that was 41 years ago [:(]
when I see my nephew I will tell him the story and how I about messed up big time also

He probably read something on black powder reloading and thought he could do the same thing with smokeless. Luckily nobody was mangled up or killed.
