orange juicer ammo

on the other thread, P3 says he uses FMJ in his .380 because JHP does not reliably expand.
I have heard that too. and I found other ammo tests where several brands of JHP's did reliably expand.
Bufalo Bore recommends FMJ in a .380 because you need all the penetration you can get.
...and I found ammo reviews where several brands of .380 JHP's did reliably penetrate to 13".
okay here's the kicker.
another website said that FMJ is blunt and smooth: unless it hits an organ or whatever dead on, it will push it aside and brush right past it. that's why you would rather have JHP instead of FMJ. it's raggedy and it cuts.
that's a good argument.
well that makes me think of orange juice.
an orange juicer to be exact.
how about an FMJ projectile that has sharp edges on it. ones that would cut instead of brushing past something. shaped like those things on an orange juicer.
sort of like this.

you don't have to worry about expansion, and while it doesn't cause as much damage as a JHP, if it penetrates twice as far, it may end up causing actually more damage than a JHP.
trying to solve the same problem, Lehigh Defense has the Xtreme Penetrator which functions a little differently.
that one relies on the front edges crushing tissue. the orange juicer ammo would cut as it passes by (or through).
whaddya think.

right, and I can name 11 brands of .380 ammo that penetrate to 13" while expanding to .450", and 2 more that don't expand like they're supposed to and so penetrate 25".
that's the page where they say you need all the penetration you can get in a .380. now they do penetrate and expand adequately. must be outdated.

I would have to call BS on that. the data I have on 2" 38SPL is nowhere near 1000 fps, and that's Cor-Bon, Speer Gold Dot and Federal HydraShok. those aren't slouches.
and then he says his "Standard Pressure" loads get 850 fps. well that's what Cor-Bon etc are getting and I'm sure those are more than standard pressure.
they don't break 1000 until out of a 4" barrel, and there is a huge difference between 2" and 4".
if you get 1000 fps out of a 2" barrel you have +P+++ or something.
cor-bon 110 gr JHP
2" 675
3" 851
4" 1013
cor-bon 125 gr JHP
2" 723
3" 854
4" 996
cor-bon 110 gr DPX
2" 814
3" 963
4" 1084
federal 125 gr hydrashok
2" 700
3" 831
4" 954
speer 135 gr Gold Dot
2" 756
3" 892
4" 1027
I would think, to achieve a cutting action, you would need to spiral the flute to match the twist of your barrel.
possibly. twist rate going thru the target may cause it to upset and tumble. the Xtreme Penetrator doesn't have a spiral. maybe it does have that problem.
or not.
have to do some testing!

I use the Pow'RBall in my Kel-Tec P-3AT .380. It feeds really well with the polymer ball in the end.

hey! that's what you said in the other topic http://forums.GunBroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=654782
If you're keeping score I'll say it for you again. "I use the Pow'RBall in my Kel-Tec P-3AT .380."
If I say it again I'll let you know so you won't have to search for it next time.
