The Eclipse,,,big deal

The Eclipse, the eclipse. Everyone is talking about it,but I can't find out where it's going to be. I'd like to drive to it if its not too far. They should've scheduled it for like Friday or Saturday night so kids could stay up to watch it. Oh well,I can't even get them to move the deer crossings on the bad sections of the highway.

Heard that some people can't find the dark glasses they are recommending. I'm going to watch it on TV, I'm sure there will be more than a few "repeats" that night and the next day.

im at 99.9% coverage here, and will not leave my house to see any of the cluster F

btw the sun during an eclipse is no more powerful than any other day, you just never stare at it that long , solar retinopathy can occur any day of the year

I would love to have the rain. Need the moisture and it would help with fire fighting and clear out some smoke.

I am amped up for it. Get 99 percent at my house.
We are having an eclipse party.

I saw one once when I was a kid in Atlanta.

I love these celestial events, such as comets, eclipses etc.

I was wondering this very thing, just never bothered to look it up. I guess I really don't care a whole lot about it.

The wife is freaking out and telling me I better make sure I let the dogs out early. She's worried they will be outside when the eclipse happens. I will be driving to work, but that didn't seem to worry her any.....[:0]

    I've seen a solar eclipse. It's pretty cool--if you're 10 years old. I don't see how/why it's such a big deal for adults.

This whole eclipse strategy is working very well for me in my retirement plans! I already have the dark sunglasses and a tin cup along with some new pencils. Working on my sign saying "Blinded by the Eclipse....Please help this poor, poor, pitiful blind guy" [8D][:0][}:)]

I won't spend the hour in the car to see 100%, but am exited about seeing the 90%+ that we will get.

May not be a big deal to some, but it is something most of us likely not see again.

We will let the guys in the shop watch it as they want, and bought the proper glasses for them to do so. Probably going to cost me a couple of thousand bucks, depending upon how long some want to watch, but it is going to be fun.

I agree, montanajoe, it would have been better had it occurred at night. I would have saved money on the glasses and paying the guys to use them.

Don't go then. We're going, a whole bunch of us. ANd we're going to be right in the thick of it! Right smack in the middle of Nebraska. It will be fun, the kids will love it, and I will get to see something I will never see again.

Exactly. You really gotta enjoy natures wonders. Too many people have let the "Kid" they used to be fade away. Life is too short to get old so quick.

Yes, tech141 I agree completely. This is a natural wonder, an event that I will never have a chance to see again.

We are having an eclipse party at my log cabin in the NC mountains, people coming up from Atlanta, and Charlotte, it will be great!

I got an email last night from a friend from northern ILL. He said his cousin had an older relative who was in bad health and the family was trying to co-ordinate a trip to west central MO to make an "end of life" visit that just happened to coincide with the eclipse. The motel in the little one horse burg quoted a 2 bed room @ $1000 per night.
I don't see the big deal. Just the fact that too many people have too much money and a 10 year old mentality. Grouch Attack informed me last week that she was going-just because she wanted to. Close to 200 miles round trip and the very real opportunity to get into a vehicle crash with all the other loony tunes that will be there.

I think it has gotten kind of ridiculous.

My wife has a iPhone and she gets alerts on it.

She got an alert that stated; on Monday during the eclipse you should keep your pets inside so they don't look up and damage their eyes.

There is some dude in nextdoor.com selling eclipse glasses for $20 each. He says they are made by NASA and are the only approved ones out there.

How have we survived with out all this bS. I remember when I was a kid there was an eclipse and we had to make some glasses in school. They were cardboard with a pinhole in them.

    I don't know how I survived

I'm in the 99% area and am offering parking on my 5 acres for just $300.00/vehicle. Sorry no modern bathrooms but I have plenty of trees and bushes.

Cost you more than that to clean the area up after they are gone. Hazardous waste.

They are now saying with all the people traveling to see this, it will be the biggest traffic jam in U.S. History. Some states are calling out the National Guard for traffic control.

preacher just got back from his sons down south yesterday, he was telling us this morning there were flashing road signs all along I-75 on his way home saying:: no parking for eclipse, and he said all the traffic was headed south. to each their own.....

I can just imagine the news on tuesday, of all the fights, traffic jams, wrecks, blind kids/people in ER.......[xx(]
