    Most likely the pump.

In addition to what's been said, I'd check the vent tube to the tank. It may be possible that no air is being allowed into the tank so no gas can go out through the fuel line.

If it's like my 87, it as 3 fuel pumps. One in each tank and a main pump on the frame rail. Also several filters, one near the pump on the frame. Also a selector valve I think before the main pump. It has to switch back and forth between tanks when the in tank pump starts.

Already said but select the tank, turn key on and you should hear the tank pump start if it's working.

Each tank has it's own primary fuel pump, supplying fuel to the main
pump. It is quite common for one or both of these to fail. Even by turning on key and listening for pump you may be hearing the main pump and not the tank pump. Since truck is running fine on front tank, I would assume the rear tank pump is bad.

Bad Pump. Have him start it and get down and listen to see if you hear the pump kick in. It should be on the rail near the back end. Had an 86 myself

LOL I posted almost the same thing. I could hear my rear pump engage when I turned the key though

I would bet it's the rear pump.
My 95 did that a few years ago. Have had it since it was new. They had to raise the bed to get to the rear pump. $800+ bill for me.[:(][:(!]

Keep in mind that some people never use the other tank. I have bought a few of those, and when you switch over, the lines may be all gunked up with bad gas, rust ect. that it can create a lot of havoc!

Best to check it before switching over.
