I think Doc is right on,anymore I think buying a new one is more cost effective. Unless a commercial bldg. with a lease on the extinguishers.

Well if you use a propane tank it sure is a lot cheaper to get it refilled then to always buy a new one. I think the same would apply here as well. There is a good amount of money tied up in the cost of the tank itself the gauge and the trigger system.

I just found a company about a mile from me that recharges them. Was gonna call them or just go down there. Just wanted to have some idea ahead of time before going down there.

I have a #5 in the garage (you're insane if you don't have some sort of fire extinguisher in your garage) and the local place gets $24 for a recharge. The cost of a complete unit is $39. If your extinguisher is over six years old it has to be inspected before they'll refill it. Naturally there is a cost for the inspection over and above the cost of the refill.

Your mileage may vary.

i have an older water fire ex fill with 2.5gal and hit it with the air chuck good for when i use the cut torch
