They were dredging out the old pond on the edge of town when this happened. They eventually got it out.

I would be a bit concerned about those chains breaking, and whipping back.
I've gotten our backhoe stuck a time or two and just used the back hoe arm to pull myself out. Anyone who has a backhoe will know what I'm talking about.
Around here you don't see a backhoe stuck very offend.
CGR...bet your backhoe wasn't submerged in "muck" like that up to its cab. If it is as soupy as that stuff looks, the more you try to dig out, the deeper you go. And as deep as that machine is, it can't just reach up on the bank and pull itself free.
