My father and sister are stuck in Thailand

I had mentioned on a previous thread that my father and sister decided to go to Thailand with my fathers girlfriend. I told them what was going on with the people and government over a month ago.

I mentioned to them that I didn't think they should go.

Now there are people protesting against their government due to the prime minister and took it to the streets and are fighting against people who are supporting the government and against the local authorities, what a mess. Now the airports are closed.

My family is stuck over there in Bangkok and my dad is trying to get to another island over there. I wish they would just stay where they are until this blows over.

Now I'm worried sick about there safety.

My wife brings up traveling abroad from time to time and I tell her to "just think of every state as a different country without customs or immigration".
I hate the idea of traveling abroad for this very reason.
None the less, I wish your family a safe journey home. Soon.

They are at a hotel in the middle of Bangkok. They were staying at my dads girlfriends house in Bangkok and they moved to a hotel. My sister said the house had bars on the windows and doors because of the crime in that city.

They didn't make it to the airport yet. They said it was shut down. My sisters said she would call me in the morning. She told me that the military or police stopped the car they were in and checked under it for bombs.

thats bad news man...all they can do is keep a very low profile...there are a lot of people in asia who would use any excuse to kill a westerner, let alone an american!!...i hope they have been in touch with the embassy and informed them where they are and given them a landline phone number to call and a cell phone number...small things in a situation like that can save your life...if it gets bad enough the embassy will get them out quick as long as they know where to find them in a hurry.

Ah Bangkok, sweet memories of that city. Went there on R&R several times during my tour in VN. They used to love Americans there.

Hope your family makes it home safely.

it was just on the news here now that the government is going to send the cops in to clear people out of the airport...

i reckon badrench has the right idea...if they are scared about their safety where they are, keep as low a profile as possible and get to the embassy...it`s better to be safe than sorry...

If I were in their shoes. This chunky monkey would be taking a midnight ferry to another country with an airport. I wonder if they can smuggle themselves in to Vietnam?

My father and sister were able to call me and they were able to make it out of Bangkok. They had to take a 12 hour bus ride and then a 2 hour fairy boat ride to Phi Phi island. They are in a safer place then they were for the moment.

They were trying to get a plane out where they are but can't get one. I heard the Thailand Military is going to try and take back the airports and The city for that matter. We will see what happens, but they are stuck for now.

Hope all works out for the best Rick.
No way in heck I would be over there myself,....some folks don't take good advice very well.

I think you may have taught your father something this time.
