I think most of us with brains are aware of the differences in NYS as compared to NYC,....Albany,....etc.

Pretty much like comparing where I live to Miami, Orlando, or Tampa.

Problem is C is a pretty big damper.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

I remember when I was in the service, everybody would ask me where I was from. When I said New York that asked me what part of the city[:)]

I know how you feel woody, When people here I am from south Jersey, they think jersey shore[xx(] The show. Or they think big city. We live in the heart of the pinelands and can drive over 50 miles through the woods without seeing a house or another car. Farms and fields here in South Jersey. The North is quite another story, Cities and then the big apple. It,s funny, when I here Florida, I think of Sanibel Island and Saint Auguastine or the Keys. I never think of the cities like Miami or Tampa. When I here New York, I think of where you live because my cabin is so close to you. Nothing but mountains and wildlife.Like Marc said, us with brains know the difference.

Too bad you can't talk those "city folk" into building a big fence to keep you bumpkins out. [;)]

Woody, first of all beautiful place.

Unfortunately your area is just like CA in that it has really nice country sides that are ripe for hunting and enjoying the outdoors. Unfortunately the urban blight areas control the politics of the state and therefore impact negatively on its overall image albeit wrong.

Same thing is happening here unfortunately.
I live in Marion county, which is pretty large land wise, but 'medium' size considering population density.

We have somewhere around 325K residents total. Short of the 'developments' most folks here have a minimum of an acre, up to hundreds. There are a ton of horse farms here.

Florida has generally been a red state, until 2008.
This county always goes Conservative big time.

We are now being outvoted by S. Florida, Tampa, Orlando, and they are starting to control everything.
So far our State Government is Republican, including the Governor.

It's only a matter of time though, as more and more people move here from NYC, NJ, MI, OH.
This is a negative result of not having a state income tax, as it attracts a boatload of old Libs to retire here.[xx(]

Roger that's a mighty nice spread you got there! [^]

Spent some time in the Rome/Utica area and I have to say NY State has some very beutiful places to visit.
Hell, NYC is a fun place to visit, if you could only get rid of the Bloomberg politics! [;)]

I hitch-hiked all over the US in the early 70s. When I said I was from NY, everyone thought NYC.
Where I am from is a major (2nd in the US) apple and dairy and grape region.
We hunt and fish, we mess and fight, we act just like people everywhere else. Being in the same state as NYC makes stupid people think stupid things about us.

I'm Originally from Rochester, NY. The family moved to Trumansburg, NY in Thompkins Co. just 20 miles North of Ithaca, NY (been by the old factory a few times).

I went back to T-burg back in '07 for a high school reunion and was floored by all of ther farm land all over the county lost to apartment developments.
A quick search on the Thopmkins Co showed the mean income was $150,000.00 + back then.

I miss NYS but will never move back, unless the state gets a seriously colon cleansing of their affairs.

Thanks for posting for me Woody, yes we just closed on that 2 weeks ago but we have been in negotiations for almost 3 years. Its not a lot of property, just 10 acres but we back up to 80,000 acres of DNR land just out our back door and within walking distance.

The population of the town is 20 times smaller than were we live now and we are looking forward to retiring up here. On a clear day, as you look down the valley and across the river you can just barely make out the town.

We already have started a small 300 sq ft cabin as a base camp and the new foundation and cabin should be started within a month. YES, just in time for turkey season.
