Here is a small cut n paste from Microsoft on their "Privacy Statement" with the new Windows 10 operating system and Cortana.

Here's their privacy statement.

"To enable Cortana to provide personalized experiences and relevant suggestions, Microsoft collects and uses various types of data, such as your device location, data from your calendar, the apps you use, data from your emails and text messages, who you call, your contacts and how often you interact with them on your device. Cortana also learns about you by collecting data about how you use your device and other Microsoft services, such as your music, alarm settings, whether the lock screen is on, what you view and purchase, your browse and Bing search history, and more."

If this is not "Pause for cause" I don't know what is.
I expect to see the usual suspects declaring that they don't do anything they care for anyone knowing and blah, blah, blah.

Just take a moment and decide for yourself what's best for you.

What's best for me is simple: I refuse to use a fooking smart phone.

They can monitor the location of my desktop if they want. All the rest of that info is being collected anyway. By lots of people. If they want to know that I just ordered a replacement bag for my landing net, well whoop-de-doo.

I'm giving the geeks six months to find all the bugs in Win10 before I try it. And then I'm going to load it to an old netbook I never use anymore. If that doesn't crash and burn, I might risk putting 10 on my desktop. Maybe. And I damn sure won't use the MS browser or Bing.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

For those that opt for Windows 10 there is an opt/out from 10 back to Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 but you have to opt out within the first 30 days or, your locked in.

Now the sneaky little part there is that if you chose to opt out of Windows 10 before the 30 days are up, they have accessed your traffic and data for that period.

It's like you closed the barn door after the horse ran away.

I am an old dog also. But I read a bunch about Ubuntu the other day and decided I need to try it.
Problem is finding all the drivers for it. Will try it on my old Dell CPi A Laptop first.
I have seen it running on the Dell E6400 which I have.
If I don't like it, I will just reload the Vista Business I have on the E6400.

No, you do not have to update. I am sticking with Windows 7 on my main desktop, and 8.1 on my laptop.
