Highway sign question,.........

edited December 2012 in General Discussion
About 3 months ago, I started noticing these electronic signs popping up on the side of the road. All I have seen are on major routes in this area.

They are mounted on black poles, and the signs are roughly 4 feet tall, by 2.5/3 feet wide,....this is an estimate of course.

Until about a week ago, all of them I saw simply said 'test' many times on them.
Suddenly the 'click it or ticket' logo replaced the other text.

I am asking because I can't believe that this county has spent all of this money to say 'click it or ticket' for the billionth time concerning seat belts.

They are mounted about where a normal DOT highway sign would be, so combined with the new message these things must belong to the county, DOT, or the police.

Just curious if any of you live in areas where they waste money for such incredibly stupid projects, or if they have some other purpose.

Maybe they are common in metro areas, but I don't live in one. We have between 300/350K residents in this county last I saw.

Probably there to warn of emergencies, accidents, amber alerts and such. And when there are no such events ongoing, they put up a safety message.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I'm sure it is easy if you live in a metro type area.
Simply asking a question, and BTW,......I pretty much figured that was the purpose.

I still would like to know who owns them, and what it cost us for something that's basically totally useless in this area.

Are they paid for/owned by the state, or individual counties?

Do not think they have invaded OH yet; all I'va seen are the stupid 12 ft' walls ODOT built on the major highways to keep the people confined when they launch the black helicptors and Surburbans..........

Thanks,...I'm sure it is most likely the same here, and state related.

If it was county, I was going to make some not so nice phone calls.

I guess the geniuses in Tallahassee decided this county is large enough to 'invest' in these extremely important devices now.

There to guide the stupid masses to the gas chambers when they have finished collasping the economy and food is running out, power and water fails and the EPA enacts their "Population Reduction" regulation, after the Demolibs have made it to their survival shelters built with public funds of course.
    Maybe.[}:)]

Wonder how much each of these wonderful devices cost me?

I really need to see 'click it or ticket' again, and they are too small to display an amber alert unless people slam on the brakes and stop to read it.

Another total waste of money by the state government.[xx(]

Much like a budget held in business...
If the funds aren't spent by the end of the fiscal year...
The budget is generally reduced for the following years.

So the state decided that any money spent would assure more money to be had...

If they're on a state hwy, the state owns them: Fed Hwy, the Feds own them: county rd, county owns them: city street, city owns them. [;)] Each gov. has their own property juristictions but regardless, yes your/our tax money is spent on them.

The more money "they" spend the more money they can say they need.....crap like that is not needed, but it makes for great budget fillers. That is the REAL purpose behind those silly signs.

On most hwy's today there's way too many signs in any given mile. If we read them all we'd never stay between the lines or on the road, we'd be wrecking, just my opinion [;)]

They belong to the State Highway dept(I-DOT)funded by the FHWA (Federal Highway Work Administration). Developed by the Illinois Division, Information Order Technology. They are usually referred to by their initials.

I'm sure most of them were paid for with stimulus funds. MY money and YOUR money, not "state," federal" or "county" fund.

    This makes the most sense.
Also as was said above,....all the ones I have seen are on 'state roads', so I guess they belong to the state.

Stimulus, state, county, city,.....doesn't matter to me , I view them as a waste of money.

These are not like the temporary electronic construction signs you see, these are permanent installations.
