Is there anyway to find out how many USA made parts are in a Saiga 223?

Well that is an easy answer. If it is all factory then the answer is NONE. If it has been worked on then you would have to find out who did the work.

The Saiga forums are a good place for info on them. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?

I must be confused, I thought at least 10 parts had to be USA made to be legal?

No more than 10 FOREIGN parts. USA parts-count is irrelevant. 10 foreign-built parts or less. Anything more than 10 foreign parts is illegal, doesn't matter how many parts are US-made.

That is not correct. The Saiga 223 as imported is LEGAL with NO US parts. As imported it has no "evil" features such as bayonet lug, pistol grip, flash hider, ect. The 1989 import ban restricted the import of "non-sporting" firearms. AK style firearms are considered "non-sporting" as it has "evil" features on them. The Saiga rifles and shotguns are considered "sporting" by definition so are legal to import.

Now if you want to take and add "evil" features to a post 1989 imported Saiga (not sure if any were imported prior to that) you will need to add US made parts. By adding the proper number of parts you firearm will no longer be considered imported and will not have to follow the import rules. The link I posted above has info on parts counts and what is required to make changes.

Here is a LEGAL imported Saiga 12 with NO US parts (I borrowed this pic)

Here is a LEGAL Saiga 12 converted by Tromix with the proper number of imported and US parts (this one is mine)
