My upper does not have flash suppressor on it. It looks like they just did not thread the end of the barrel. Is it legal to add the flash suppressor now? Can I have the barrel threaded or dose it cost less to replace the barrel? Is there an after market flash suppressor that slips over the end and is held with tap screws? Thanks Vince

I don't see why it would be illegal to thread it, but nobody does that, it would be easier and cheaper to buy one already threaded and sell the old one. I don't know if there's a "pin on" flash suppressor for it, probably. they make clamped on bayonet lugs, why not.

Perfectly legal to thread the barrel for a flash hider.

But unless you just like the idea of keeping your current barrel I would sell it and just buy one that is already threaded for or have a flash hider already.

I have met several people who would rather have the non threaded/non flash hider style barrel and would probably trade straight across if you asked around.
