I am running for an elected office that pays $19,000 a year, plus a $3,000 car allowance.

Public office is like being a waitress. The base pay is low because they know you will be bringing in tips. How else do elected officals making 75k a year become millionaires after only a few years in office? [;)]

Most of those guys are wealthy to begin with. The office I seek is that of Constable.

A long time ago, Constables collected fees and mileage expenses for service of process. Now, they are paid a salary, period.

I can afford to accept such a salary because I will be retired and drawing a decent retirement check every month.

I wasn't inferring you would be. From what I know you are a good man. I just could pass up an opportunity to make my feelings on our elected officals known. [8D]

I fondle lions and tame women. Too old to race cars, but I have a souped up walker, every day off, and my own Depends. Doesn't pay so well though.[:(]

You going to be able to draw a pension and still get paid for the elected position?

Absolutely! It isn't exactly a "pension;" it's a retirement system, partly my money, and partly statutorily-mandated money, and I could draw it if I were in the penitentiary.

Plus, if I am elected, I will pay into another retirement system.
