went to my local southern states store saturday to buy my late summer seeds. i wanted to get radish, spinish, turnip, and some beet seeds, but i couldn't find them in their usual spot. i asked the sales person where they had been moved. his reply was "hell buddy, we aint had no seeds for a month". just wondering how many G.B. folks that never planted a garden before has planted this year

14 seeds per dollar for a pepper plant. I think these seed companies have more issues than just shipping. They get the seeds by the sack and put them in little envelopes that cost more than the seeds do. It would be nice to find more places that sell seeds by the pound or fractions of the pound. You'd save money, could share them with your friends and use them for several years, and then throw the rest away.

According to the Wilhite catalog there are 4,700 pepper seeds per oz. 360 seeds go into 4,700 thirteen times. Thirteen times $24.95 is $324.35. So you bought pepper seed at $324.35 per oz. Silver is selling for $30.04 per oz and gold for $1651.70. Some tomato seed comes close to the price of gold. It is a good idea to learn how to save seed from year to year.

Saving seed is easier than most folks think.I have a bunch of "beefsteak, plumb and heirloom tomatoes that I saved myself.Jalapino, green bell and pablano seed I saved my self.
Their on their 2nd. year of storage,I just need a spot to plant the suckers.
I know their good,I have planted a few of each in paper dixie cups, then potted them up into 5gal. buckets..

...We usually order from 3-4 different seed houses. There are certain
varieties that can't all be had by any one seller. As for onions, we've had better yields fron plants rather than bulbs. (starts)

Only a fool would pay $34 for just 360 pepper seeds? I can get all kinds of Pepper plant seeds for around $2.50 to $3.00 for a package that contains an average of 150 seeds.

You can even go to most green houses around here and buy 12 Tomato, Cabbage or pepper plants that are ready to set out for less than $5.00.

I have the Wilhite catalog handy from before.

Anaheim pepper seed $1.30 for 1/16 oz (about 300 seeds). 1 oz $5.50
cubanelle pepper seed $1.40 for 1/16 oz. 1 oz $6.15

Shipping on that amount is $2.95

Many types of vege seed can be stored for a long time. Temperature and moisture are considerations. With out a referance in front of me I think pepper seed lasts 6 years stored correctly.
