Have you done a system restore ??

Power down your box - no electricity to it.

    Wait a minute.

    Turn it back on.

As it boots, you will get a row of commands at the bottom of the screen.

    One will say "System Restore".

Quickly click on that and follow the prompts to re-configure your system to how it was on a previous date.

You should be good to go, and then you can do virus sweeps, etc..

    What is Ubuntu thing ??

Hey,........I would still take YOUR advice.
I'm sure you wouldn't have recommended a new OS when he was looking for a free registry cleaner![:0][:D]

Good luck,......you should have been smart enough to see that "Ubuntu" was an OS if you did a quick check.

Personally I don't want anything named that on my puter.
    Sounds African to me.

This is what I have been using for years with no problems.
Does a lot more than registry also.
Some will come on and say it is weak on cleaning your registry, but that is the way you want to go IMHO. Major changes and you are down in flames.

Yes,......mbam is a good app for malware as long as you keep an eye out for their frequent "false positives."
Simply put them in the ignore list if you have any suspicions about the file it wants to delete.

I am sure that 1911a1 will agree with me on this one.

Every year I back up my computers and do a fresh install. Found it to be easier than me cleaning the registry. If I do play in the registry, I do a fresh backup of it.

    ok folks...here's what happened

2 days ago, i did a defrag, normal maintenance, and my analysis was

    c: 149 gig, 65% free space

yesterday morning, i was skyping with my friend, went to upload some pics to my myspace page...browser crashed. i use firefox. skype, firefox, and paintshop pro 9.01 were the 3 programs i was running at the time. i got a very quick message "virtual memory too low" then poof... no firefox, no psp.

did the analysis again, all my free space was red and totalled 1%

i deleted programs, files, pics, music, did virus, clean up, uninstalled windows components, rebooted, system restored to 3 months ago, did all the above again...reset my virtual memory to a higher allowable, did another virus, deleted more programs, drank alot of mt. dew... peed twice... did another analysis (79% free) yet i still have the same problems... within minutes - low virtual memory then browser crash. i can only view 1 website at a time and upload nothing to anywhere. and .... hey look at that... there's the low memory message now...

Do you boot off of the ubunutu live CD and then use the "install" option. Usually ubuntu will try to coexist with windows (e.g. resize your partitions and install beside windows) and not destroy windows. When you boot your computer do you see a black scree (GRUB) with options that allows you to choose which OS to boot?
