I recently bid and won two handguns here on gunbroker. My local FFL holder tells me that if I recieve both handguns within a 7 day period that he must report it to the FBI. Whats up with that?

What state do you live in? Some states have retarded laws like that.

I live in Alabama, have purchased lots of handguns in the past but not two at once and was not aware of this regulation. I don't understand the purpose it serves other than agravation.

By Federal law any purchase of two or more handguns within a 5 day period must be reported to the ATF and local law enforcement officials with in 24 hours.

Why would any law abiding self respecting citizen want two buy more than one handgun in one day? You must be up to no good and the authorities need to be notified so they can keep an eye on you.[:o)]

If you buy 2 handguns within a 5 day period the FFL files a record of multiple purchase form. 1 copy goes to the local PD or sheriff, the 2nd copy goes to the BATF.

Unlike 4473's, these forms do get looked at by the BATF and they do sometimes follow up with them if you get a bunch sent in on you.
