SALT LAKE CITY - A member of Salt Lake County's SWAT team left an M4 assault rifle in front of someone's home after leaving the scene of a standoff in the township of White City.
Salt Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Levi Hughes says the gun was left by a veteran member of the SWAT team who forgot the weapon in the grass while packing up gear after the standoff ended.
A homeowner found the rifle in the front yard of a house a few hours later and notified authorities. Hughes says an officer on patrol stopped by the home and recognized the rifle as a weapon belonging to the SWAT team.
Hughes says leaving the gun behind was an unacceptable, terrible mistake. Hughes says the officer will face disciplinary action, but probably won't be fired.

Thank goodness someone turned it in.
Oh my...
Thank goodness someone turned it in.
Thank God a adolescent didn't find it
Luckily it didn't harm anyone laying there without proper police supervision.
i guess he had a domesticated evil rifle and had it trained to not just start shooting by itself
I classify this as non-career enhancing.
It's a big deal now because its negative press. Once the story goes away its over, the Deputy will get a write up in his folder and maybe a couple days off.

If had been left in my yard it woulda been

You know what would be even better then stealin it? Removin all the ammo(its worth as much as the gun these days[B)]), lock the bolt open, and leave 31 empty cases scattered around it.

Thats funny.[:D][:D][:D]
I have never seen our SWAT guys ever lay a weapon down, except to put it in the case or in a car gun rack. They keep them slung and wear them until time to put them up.
I wish I would have found it.. [}:)]
My thoughts exactly.[;)]

I'm glad that evil thing didn't go on a rampage while it was on it's own.
