Fair price for '85 Datsun 720?

Considering buying from a friend.

Long bed 3/4 ton 5 spd. no air no radio straight solid body upholstery shot 38,000 miles.

What would be a fair offer? I was thinking 6 or 7ish.

There was one around here for sale last year like that. He sold it for $850. It was low miles, but smoked a little.

The payload tag reads 1500 lbs. Sounds like 3/4 ton to me. Has 6-lug wheels.

Standard cab 2wd and yes, of course, I mean hundreds not thousands.

Max load {like anyone follows them} Is 1100 lbs. They include 400 lbs for driver/pass. to get 1500 total. Max trailer loads {without trailer brakes} is 2000 lbs. 3000 if trailer has brakes.

The magic 8 ball says 'yes, 600 would be fair'.

Half ton trucks have 5 & 6 lug hubs, 3/4 tons & 1 tons have 8 lug hubs. The payload on my 3/4 ton is 2600 lbs, which is lower because of the heavy diesel engine, the gas engine model 3/4 ton's payload is 3150 lbs.

four banger? probably gets decent gas mileage. Probably be a handy truck. I'd like to have something like that to take the garbage to the dumpsters.

How rusty is it? Those things were prone to suffer from rust.

How good does it run? Need any repair, like tires, exhaust, glass OK, use oil, leak?

    $600 would be about right.

Had an '82. Yes, these will run about forever - which is about the only good thing that can be said about that 4 cylinder as mine felt like it had about 50 hp and it got about 18 to 20 mpg.

You may find that you'll need to rebuild the brake cylinders. The rubber components dry rot when they sit for a while.
Other than that, I'd go for it. If you drive it for a year, it'll pay for itself.
