Don't let your pets watch the eclipse ??

I can't imagine for a moment why any critter would look up at the sun at any time, yet a lot of people have posted on social media, "Don't let your pets out during the eclipse!"
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

    Your pet is safe outside.
Have you ever heard of any animal ever going blind from watching an eclipse?
    Ever?
    Facebook is full of idiots.

Fish on the other hand... they will all go blind worldwide. [;)]

the sun during the eclipse is no different than any other day

you just dont typically stare at the sun for more than a few seconds, during the eclipse people will be staring for long periods which can lead to solar retinopathy

Are you telling me that chickens don't stare up at the sky, clouds, sun and other birds and fantasize about being able to fly?

Somewhat dark enough in this area for car and street lights to come on, from what I'm told.
    What's next?

Akira went over to the French doors that lead to the covered porch - backyard...

He lay down and began to growl - grumble - grouse...

We tried to reassure him and offered turkey bacon jerky which he would not touch...

After about 5 minutes he started in with quiet barking - whoorphing...

I opened the doors and went out to the porch - sat down on one of the heavy duty over built wooden Adirondack chairs...

He hit the yard moving at a good clip - he walked the perimeter / fence line and checked both gates / doors...

He did this 3 times before returning to the porch...

He lay down under the heavy duty overbuilt wooden picnic table..

He stayed there for awhile - finally accepting the turkey jerky from the girls...

They took him back inside - he settled down but was quite quiet for about 15 minutes...

He went into his crate and is there now napping and doggy dreaming - legs twitching and heavy breathing as he pursues dream bunnies...

    Mike

my 5 dogs did nothin' with much more coverage here in NC than new jersey.....kinda like a thin cloud cover...IDK..guess yours are more attuned.???

My dogs just played with my buddys dogs like nothing was happening.

They never looked up or acted loke anything was going on.

Not pets, exactly, but I did give my two hummingbird families and the neighborhood quail covey a stern lecture about the eclipse. I even waggled my forefinger at them to emphasize the point.

Thankfully, they seem to have obeyed my strictures and none of them looked at the sun without eclipse glasses.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

My Golden Retriever went into his box under the deck when it started. Had to coax him out when it was over, even though the grandkids were here. He always gets excited when the grandkids are here.
