RIP
He had been into racing for a long time
He was announcing in Corpus Christi,Texas in 1948 when my dad won the championship that year
they moved dad's primer gray off the pole in order to take the color photo for the C.C. newspaper
Mr Chris asked the promoter who might win
he said that primer car we just moved
This is the same 1948 car
dad used in 1949 just before his crash ended his career
he would not paint it although he also owned a body shop
Dad and him always talked when they would go to Winston Cup events
Now they can talk again
Very cool story. I got an awesome opportunity to spend time with Chris at the Atlantic City Indoor Race a few years ago. Our driver is part of the second most notable racing family from Pennsylvania (the 1st being the Andrettis). Chris spent most of the evening in our pit area talking with us and sharing racing stories, especially about our driver's father, who lost his life in a USAC sprint car accident. To me, Economaki will always be the official voice of motorsports.
