Whirlpool side by side fridge water filter?

Does the filter just filter the drinking water from the door or does it also filter the water going to the ice maker? Our ice seems to have something of a bad taste when it melts?

The reason they cost so much is because your ice will stop having a bad taste when it melts.

did you empty the (full) ice tray 3 or 4 time before use[?]
that cleans the ice maker out and is part of the instructions
to do.

It should filter both,,I dump the ice out of mine about once a month and let it refill,that way it does not pick up funky freezer odors/taste in the ice on the bottom of the bucket that never gets used

Both, but it is important that right after you install a new filter that you run the recommended volume of water through it before use.
