You rarely see a road kill turkey (the bird)

I almost got one this afternoon. He was crossing US-58 flying low. He never got higher than the hood of my Tahoe. It was kinda like a chemical stress test. My heart was in my throat for a while. I might have tickled his tail feathers but I think I missed him by inches.
The road to hell is paved with COMPROMISE.

add in over the years of running over it
possum ( opossum for some of you [}:)]
*
vultures
rabbits
fox
snakes
to name a few
for the most part if if it crosses the road you can expect to see at least one [xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(]
Going over a causeway, van coming the other way towards me when a suicidal duck made a mad dash crossing at an elevation of about 5 feet above the roadway. Van grill punted him at me- thought duck was going to hit the windshield.... Ahh! Went to the right..... BOINGOINGOING! A cloud of feathers....
Radio antennae got him.[B)]
I had one take out a marker light on my Benz. Pulled over and tried to find it but it ran off.
Your marker light ran off? Don

Yep. Dang thing was fast!
When I lived in upstate ny I saw a bunch of broken windshields from turkeys.
had a little RX7 pass me one day on interstate doing about 80, as it was going up a small hill about a quarter mile ahead of me I saw a * "cloud" in front of the car. I figured it had blown a motor from the speed it passed me. as I got up to it, it had pulled over on the burm of the highway I saw a turkey on side of road and the windshield was busted/broken out of it, he had hit a turkey flying across the interstate. I just figured it was Karma for speeding.......

If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!
Cowboy was riding in pickup with cattle owner, headed along dirt road.
He leaned over to see speedometer, which read "95" as he saw turkey coming over hood of truck.
He hit the floor, turkey hit the windshield, windshield hit back of seat.
Dad said moving turkey out of truck was like handling a bag full of jello.
Bet that turkey broke every bone in his body[:D]

Daughter hit 2 a couple summers ago, the county truck behind her got the rest of the flock! Cost her a windshield, but didn't go through.
I'm thinking a 20-30 lb bird at 70 mph would ruin more than your day on a bike!
Turkeys can fly[?]
He's not talking about humans turkeys[:D]
The little Ford Rangers they gave us just couldn't get the job done due to the wimpy motors. We'd get really close to a wad of birds, punch it, and watch them feathery Houdini's float inches away from the hood on the way to the treetops.
Funniest time was when one turkey flapped his way into a bear, who freaked out & ran into the road right in front of us. Missed him too.
very few roadkill crows but I have sen 2.
Yep, very few. I have only seen 1. I think it's because they warn the whole murder with the warning call of "Carr Carr Carr"

Domesticated (farm turkeys) can't fly. They are bred for big breast and heavy weight. If a flock of wild turkeys gets up in front of you, you might have to take a break to clean out your drawers. The noise is like a covey of quail time a hundred. Yeah, they can fly.
True story.
Tooling along at 75mph. Wondering why he hit the brakes then saw the feathers fly...
I hit an owl about 2 am in a 62 Volkswagen bug. With the 6 volt headlights on high beam you could probably see about 25 feet in front of the car.
In my 63, I used to joke that the headlights weren't for driving; they were aircraft warning lights!
Almost had a front row seat (driver's seat) view of a huge Red-tailed Hawk roadkill this morning. My wife had a regular checkup this morning and as we were driving away from the Doctor's office she said "is that a hawk"? I saw the hawk come out from between several large Oaks, gaining altitude, and when it was at windshield level, directly in front of me, I saw the Fox Squirrel it was carrying away; the squirrel had an "Oh Crap" expression on its face! [:D]
A very close encounter!
