We had an electrical surge that
damages appliances:
Gas furnace...Rinnai direct vent
gas "furnace"...Rheems water heater.
Blew the hell out of a line strip..
Dehumidifier and magnifying flourescent
desk lamp.We got every thing fixed/replaced
minus a grand for the deductible.
Now what would blow in the desk lamp.
the ballast? This is the only item
I"d like to repair myself .IT is wonderful
for the reloading desk and cost $450.
Thank you
Ron

If it is Florescent it would have a ballast, some of the older style even had starters. I doubt the "tombstones" were damaged.

Not much on desk lamps but I replace old magnetic ballast in 4 foot fixtures with electronic ballast and T8 bulbs. Have to shunt the Tombstone leads for the new T8 ballast.

If the lamp cost 450 it sounds like a damn nice one and worth fixing.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!
