I have seen,on a website, and been told by Larry Potterfield(Youtube video)that the military armorer's manual shows the barrel nut torque is 30-80 ft. lb. They also say it needs to be torqued. With a window that wide does anybody bother to torque it?

Next question. Do you ever need to shim a flash suppressor to get it timed? The neighbor kid brought one over the other day, and it needed almost a full turn to time up. I tightened it up plenty tight, and it needed a half turn still. I had to shim mine with a copper washer to get it to index, after I saw it was out of time from the factory.

Understood, but if you're lining up the barrel nut with the gas tube opening, why does it need to be torqued?

We have those, but they don't appear to crush much. If I would have horsed that suppressor the additional half turn it would have been in excess of 200# torque. which is way way too much for a 1/2 inch thread.

I torque mine but like stated just tight then clocked to clear the gas tube
I have also read on here the torque can effect accuracy and some try different settings ?

they make shim packs less than 10.00 or so to allow adjusting of the flash suppressor also lock nuts you set and tighten the flash hider too where you want it

I use a flat file, lay the crush washer on it and slide it back and forth a few times, test fit till it lines up.

In a perfect world you would torque the barrel nut to around 50 lbs and the gas tube would line up. But folks we don't live in a perfect world. That barrel nut isn't going anywhere with the gas tube running through it.

I am feeling kinda silly. I never thought of that. If that nut comes off, you have waaaay bigger problems. [:0]

Initially tighten to 30 ft lbs and back off and re-tighten. Then tighten to 30 ft. lbs up to 80 to line up gas tube.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!
