Coyote hunting pictures from today

Didn't score, but I still have chills. Set up in the open oaks near a field and started calling. No wind, but lots of snow falling. After a while with no luck in seeing anything moving, I packed it in. As I left my stand, which was a group of four trees, I walked about twenty yards or so and saw them, Coyote tracks. My heart sunk and I got a little nervous. Those suckers came right in behind me and I never saw them. This is a learning process for me with the new call and sit and spin. That is a wounded rabbit looking decoy. Anyway, I had a blast and will be back at it this week. We can hunt 24 hours a day, except Sundays, unless you are on private property. I found them, now I need to harvest a few. Oakie

It's their mating season, and if paired up you should see both dogs. Good luck hunting the wiley bastages.
Didn't Recognize You with all that HAIR[:o)]
At least you know they are nearby, that will keep it interesting.
I've called a lot, seldom do you set a call out that it doesn't move something even if it doesn't come all the way in. Your set up and some degree of luck makes the difference on if you see it or not.
Which way was the wind blowing? They often will try to circle down wind of the call. Cold weather makes for great calling conditions. Critters are hungry. As the winter goes on the hungrier they get.

I have an app that show my scent cone and wind direction. Wind was blowing from them to me. The wind was actually very calm tonight. I forgot about them circling in. I was just excited to be out there in the snow and my mind was not focused. This is my first real attemp at coyote hunting with a call and decoy. I have killed seven in my lifetime. One on an honest hunt for them in PA. The rest were killed during the firearm season. We are so infested with them, I figured I would get back into predator hunting in earnest. When I was a kid, I ran trap lines and caught all kinds of predators. This is totally different and new to me. I am going to keep after it. Brings me peace and gives me time to myself ,enjoying the great outdoors. Oakie

I was kinda curious about that myself fish killer. I know when I lived in N. Jersey (within a stones throw of NY. literally.) Deer season was shotgun only. Centefire rifles were Verboten.
