Not certain what I would have done...

Would have been stressed and afraid of road rage.

Pretty much just say as little as possible and do what he says. If you fight (argue) with any cop, you'll get the short end of the stick, at least in the short term. He's just a hot head cop who has lost his center hopefully he'll be terminated.

I would have whispered in his ear "As a twenty year retired cop, I can say with 100% certainly you have spent your last day as a cop".

A guy in a civilian vehicle, tatooed, dressed like a bum, stopping in the roadway and angrily approaching my vehicle at night and 3 times saying he was going to "put a hole in my head", and holding a shiny object in his hand at night, I would not have allowed him to make contact with me. I would have continued backing or made a U turn, anything to distance myself from the threat, and called 911. These are good things to think about in advance. If at all possible, distance yourself from the threat, and do not allow the threatening person to make contact with you. If you can reasonably identify the person as a police officer do as you are told. In this case I would get away from the threatening person and immediately report the incident.

I would have drove away from him and called 911, even if he had flashed his badge. I he had pointed his gun at me I am not sure what I would have done. There are all kinds of fake badges out there.

    But I like Alpine's response the best.[:D]

The chief has already given the officer some support, saying "he is a good officer, and when you work hard you step on some toes".

Didn't see what started the incident.... However if some stranger started pointing a gun at me and started yelling he would shoot me I hope I would have just driven away....maybe a speed bump along the way? Depends I guess.

I retired as LEO after almost 30 years. He says he gonna put a hole in
me and produces no ID, he would be looking at a gun barrel. As it is
my attorney would be contacting the Chief, Mayor, and city Council.

Probably isn't going to end well.

Okay first thing, I did not click the link so I have no idea what we are talking about.

Second thing, smiling and asking "is this the first time you have been alone with a fat man" may sound funny, until they reply "no it is not." [8D]
Just smile and say nothing, let them guess how much you know.

I knew a cop just like that guy.I beat him on a speeding ticket,in court.Guy HAUNTED me for YEARS!!
He was in a motorcade, leading Obammy down I95 in West Pamm Beach. He parked his bike and just walked out into traffic with his hand up(SUPRECOP) SMASH!!! Got squished like a friggin bug by a big 4x4 pick up.
He was a rookie patrolman driving a cruiser when he pulled me over for 80+in A 35 MPH ZONE. After I was what he wrote on the ticket,he asked me how he was doing 80 and I was pulling away.I told him it was because I was doing a "buck ten".
In Court I had pix of where he stopped me and the speed limit sigh that said 45MPH..

as soon as he got out of his truck like that I would had my gun out for sure not knowing or trusting he is a cop with that behavior, which in reality would have made it much worse

he was drunk too, whether it was on power or alcohol

I would have said: 'Is this going to be one of those rare stops where I can post the video and get some attention, or is it one of the millions where nothing of significance happens that are ignored?'

Apparently it is one of those rare stops that is getting some attention. The officers actions made sure of that. I am glad the driver had video, the officer needs to be held accountable for his documented actions. With no video this would have been another of those stops where "nothing of significance happens" because everything can be denied and nothing can be proved.

I have a MA non-res LTC (A) and just spent a week there visiting home around Andover, Haverhill. I wouldn't have shot the guy in the 1st 30 seconds of the tape, but I sure would have had gun in hand.

And BTW, wasn't it so nice of Medford's finest to help their pal out by issuing a summons to the driver for the change of address? As soon as they asked "and how long have you lived there?" you knew what was coming. Nothing adds a bit of legitimicy to the event like a good cite.

I like cops, still work with them on occasion. My brother's a cop, but these guys behaved like bums.

The chief admits this officer has been a problem. Only the video finally made the officer responsible for his actions. I like video, it holds people accountable for their bad actions, and gives recognition for their good actions. http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2015/07/31/medford-police-chief-says-police-officer-has-faced-past-complaints/ZCGKF88lG33npLhdpSpRfI/story.html

My instinctive self-preservation reaction if attacked by such a violent person would be to stomp on the gas and run him over.

When the officers from his department arrived at the scene and saw you ran over one of their fellow officers, you will have wished you chose a different option. Look at this other incident. A Trooper shot at kids who knocked on his door, they meant to go to the house next door. As the kids drove away the Trooper shot at their vehicle 3 times. The kids were arrested and held 9 hours, then released with no charges. No action was taken against the Trooper for shooting at the kids who had committed no crime. It is just under investigation. May have had a different outcome if you shot at some kids who had just knocked on your door and were driving away. http://www.nj.com/sussex-county/index.ssf/2015/07/teen_off-duty_trooper_fired_at_us_but_we_were_trea.html

I can't disagree with you about how the other officers in that department would behave -- I expect the whole department is made up of thugs. I'm simply describing what my natural self-preservation action would be. (That was the question: How would you have reacted?)

The chief in his statement sounds sincere. The point I was making in bringing this topic up is that you should try to visualize all the threatening things that can happen to you. Think about how you would respond. Better to have a general plan of action than to respond unprepared in a crisis.
