Is Cheap Bleach as Potent as Clorox? Had some white wash cloths soaking in some water in the Bathroom Sink. Water drained out & Black Goodies showed up. Ran hot water in & added some bleach. No work. Put some Lysol Toilet Cleaner in. Killed the Blackies but eat the finish off the sink drain. Fumes weren't too good either. Read on bottle later: Do Not Mix With Bleach.

I think most commercial bleach is 5% chlorine. what I never understood was if you look there is a date on the jug. How does bleach go out of date???????????
% Active Chlorine
it fades with time and heat
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Toilet cleaner is usually phosphoric acid. Chlorine bleach is Chlorine. The two together can kill you . DID you say your name is lucky? PS you can have trouble later on . like COPD.
Bleach is sodium hypochlorite. Not chlorine. Mixing with acid will release chlorine. He may have lucked out with a caustic based cleaner.
Little chlorine is good for the sinuses though.
The personal exposure limit for chlorine is, if you can smell it it's to much. Be very careful mixing bleach with "anything." And no, it's not good for your sinuses.
I was being sarcastic. I deal with many deadly chemicals at work, never take any of them lightly.
Bleach and ammonia release chloramine gas, and possibly hydrazine, not chlorine. However, this is only of interest to a chemist, or the EMT or firefighter trying to revive you.
Toilet cleaners usually contain hydrochloric acid (The Works) or phosphoric acid. When combined with bleach, either can produce a nice yellow/green cloud of chlorine.
Cheap bleach does not contain some of the other stuff like perfumes, but if active ingredient is still 5.25% sodium hypochlorite, that is the main thing. Concentrated products (use half the amount!) have less water, higher percentage of sodium hypochlorite.
Bleach that has been open a long time will begin to loose it's potency.
hypochlorite is an ion composed of chlorine and oxygen, with the chemical formula ClO#8722;.
PS- if you used that stuff straight your clothes should fall to pieces in a few day if they haven't already. But the mold will be gone.
Dissolve two or three 80-90% chlorine pool tablets in a gallon of water. Once dissolved delute that with two gallons of water and add a small amount of powdered Borax.
