    The 5.56 chamber has a slightly longer throat in the chamber, and they are loaded to a higher pressure.

    Short version is that You can shoot .223 in a 5.56 rifle, but 5.56 should not be fired in a .223 rifle.

    The mil spec pressures are all at 55K PSI or below. It is the short leade of the .223 chamber that makes it seem like the pressures are higher.

    Your second sentence is extremely good guidance. It may indeed work.....until it doesn't. [:0]

    Wolf Gold is a better round than either, more accurate and more consistent

    It is a 223 round that shoots at/near M193 pressures and has become the number one pick of AR shooters that don't reload
