Conceal Carry Gun for Wife

Hey, This is my first post on here, but I thought I would see what people thought. I would like to get my wife a gun for conceal carry. She will probably put it in her purse, so she doesn't want something huge. We went to the gun range/store and she liked some of the hammerless .375s they had. She wanted something with a safety, but she also liked the way revolvers were. I think a .357 is a bit much for her because she is pretty petite. I think you can load 38 special ammo in it though right? Any suggestions on a good conceal handgun for a wife.

Thanks

My wife has a GP100 357 and she will not let me touch it! She got really good at shooting thanks to the 38 rounds we used for practice. Every once in a while I would put in a .357 and she would be even more accurate for some strange reason.

I'm trying to talk her into the sp101. Your wife would love that thing. It's super nice for concealed carry.

My dad purchased a Rohrbaugh p9 for my mom but that's way out of my league.

If you have the coin get the Rohrbaugh.. Its a tack driving pocket pistol in 9mm!

Make sure you take here to the shop to hold the weapon. I came home with a S&W previous to the ruger and she did not like the way it felt i her hands. Luckily I was able to bring it back the same day.

It looks like the one your wife has is pretty big. Does she carry that in her purse? I was looking at the Rohrbaugh site, but couldnt find any prices. Do you know an estimate cost?

I agree that it should be something light and small enough for her. So far there have been a few good suggestions.

Take her to the range and let her "test drive" a couple she is interested in/feel good in her hand. A .357 in a hammerless MAY be a little stout for her, but as you stated you could use the .38spl round.

Yep, she like big purses that consume other small purses. She works at the bank so she feels a need for some heavy metal. She's Slovakian so probably not like most American girls.

It is a bit heavy, that's why I suggested the sp101. you can also get titanium framed revolvers that feel like junk to me...

The p9 is around 900 and probably going up due to the demand....My dad got his in a gun shop down in florida. The one he got was a little more since it was some fancy edition all blacked out...

I would start her out with a .22 on targets if she has never fired a handgun--hand her a snubby .357 for her first time at the range and you may disinterest her from it because of the recoil. She WILL be able to handle a .357 but let her get the hang of shooting first. I carry a Taurus 850(concealed hammer) and with non +p loads it is not bad at all. The Ruger SP101 also comes in the new .327 Magnum which allows you to also fire .32 H&R mag, .32 S&W Long and .32 S&W. It is also a 6 shot--.32 Longs would be a breeze for practice and then work her up to the magnums.

    Bad jujubes!

I own a "hammerless" .357 (S&W 340 Airlite Sc) revolver. The problem goes well beyond it's brutal recoil and complicates with bullet unseating causing cylinder lock at a most inconvenient time.

I do carry such gun frequently, however, loaded in .38 Spl JHP's and dressed in Eagle's Secret Service rosewood grips.

I bought my wife a 3" model 36 S&W in about 1993, and it has served her well.

My wife fired 1 round of .357Mag out of my 4 3/4" Ruger Blackhawk and decidided she wanted nothing more to do w/the .357.
    However .38SPL is OK.
Armscor, the same company that makes the popular Rock Island 1911's, makes an updated version of the Colt Detective.
A 2" barreled .38SPL revolver incorporating a floating firing pin and transfer bar safety ignition. While it does have a hammer, the price is quite reasonable. My local gunshop sold out @ $230. each. You can order them online from Centerfire for $179. which works out to approx somewhere less that $220. after shipping/FFL receiver fee's.
