I'm with you. After one hit like that I bet the entire saw is pretty much junk.

Product has been on market at least 10 years. Yeah, the stop pretty much destroys the blade.

many years ago mom told me about a guy brought into surgery. Leaned over a running saw blade... way over. Yup, what off Mr. Happy. She had numerous stories about traumatic castrations.

    Are also good quality saws.

Luckily have not had to replace any blades or modules.

Practice safe procedures of operation and all is well.

FEENIX - that was quite intriguing and dramatic, thanks. [^]

PS: Whether there has or has not been reference to this mechanism before, it is relevant and useful to have it here now. Not everyone checks or searches through years and years of posts and not everyone is chained to their PCs like some of us. [:(]

    I call that some insurance.

Never expect to have an accident. Especially the seasoned carpenters

    interesting...
Although always described as a cowboy, Roswellnative generally acts as a righter of wrongs or bodyguard of some sort, where he excels thanks to his resourcefulness and incredible gun prowesses.

There is absolutely NO way my brain would voluntarily let me stick my finger in a table saw, safety mechanism or not. My self preservation instinct is way too strong for that.

I have got tangled with a couple saws/routers in the past, luckily not losing a finger, just some meat off of them. And yes, in every instance, it was due to carelessnes and negligence on my part. Sure leaves you with a greatly heightened sense of safety awareness, though!

He didn't even put his finger in. He only got it close enough to touch off the sensor.

I sure as hell ain't going to do this, but come on man, if you're going to do it, do it. Slide it up like you were cutting wood. Like you did with the hot dog.

Sad thing is I have never heard of it myself ... it popped up in my FB as best videos or something like that. I totally agree with you, for $60 it's quite a safety feature and an investment.

I heard on some woodworking forums that all other manufactures would also need to buy the mechanism from SawStop due to patents!

    Geez, that's wonderful.
    The new kids breaking
    into woodworking don't
    have to be careful around
    a tablesaw.
    Like all else,the lobbyists
    will watch out for their
    greater good.
    (Six months of sawdust,grime

I was working in a factory on a large hooded sandblaster working on jet turbine blades when something hit me in the back. It was a guys finger that was cut off by a cutoff saw a few feet away.
