I believe that portion of the stands has been moved back. Otherwise it could have been much worse.

I'd put that right up there with the Geoff Bodine crash in 2000. But Geoff did not walk away. I talked with him about that crash when he was running for us. Notice below his hands outside the roll cage. People gave Danica crap about turning loose of the wheel in a crash and grabbing her straps. I know a young man that ended up with his hands outside the roll cage when an atv rolled. He is lucky to be able to use one of those hands these days...

All of our drivers wear arm restraints to keep their hands/arms inside the cage. Danica lets go of the wheel to avoid breaking her hands or wrists. If she took a hit like Bodine, she (or any other driver for that matter) would not be able to hold onto their belt straps.

Glad to see Austin walk away and hope all of the fans that were injured recover quickly. Have to give NASCAR credit for the safety improvements that were implemented after the deaths of Earnhardt Sr., Roper, Irwin, Adam Petty, & John Nemecheck.
