Because the wack-jobs that be, have compared today's numbers to that of the early 40's.
On top of that, they send STUDENTS out to catch and count the numbers of fish.
These are people that cannot even tie a friggin knot!!! Let alone target a certain species of fish and get a real count...
These are "researchers" that know less about fish and the art of catching them, than our illustrious POTUS!!![:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]

Years ago back in the 50s &60s Red Snapper was probably the most caught fish off the coast of NC/SC. We caught huge Red Snapper and several each trip off shore. This past season I caught dozens of them but they were maybe a pound each.

35 years seems excessive to me. I am guessing this is commercial and recreational also?

Call me crazy if you wish, but here's how I feel about it.

What it boils down to, IMO, is the attempted killing-off of the commercial fishing trade. Easier for the sportfishing guides and industry to get rich during tourist season that way. No, or very little, competition from commercial interests. Not just the east coast of Florida, either, but the East Coast in it's entirety.

It isn't to "protect the environment", folks. It isn't about "research".

    It's greed, 100%.
An unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it.

How many testicles do you have to give up to catch a Snook these days in FL? Prolly went the way of the do-do in terms of legality.

Used to catch those all the time as a kid. Biggin's too! Talk about a "sport fish"!

Havn't been allowed to keep a Snook of ANY SIZE, since the freeze back in 2009/10.
Their so damn thick in Jupiter Inlet, right now,U could practically walk across it!!!!
    STILL..... BANNED!!![:(!][:(!]

The big reason for the ban is : ADM and Conagra, they sell fish food to the commercial growing operations in Asia as well as the U.S....get rid of the wild harvest, and you make people buy farm raised fish. The commercial boys were killed in the Gulf Many years ago, they just don't know it....If you go out to a restaurant, most likely you will eat imported fish and shrimp,as well as lobster tails and deep water crab...90% likely...even the Mahi is imported.....I agree about the folks taking the samples, absolutely no practical knowledge of the industry..

They put limits, when I fish, its for food, I put it in cooler, clean, take home.
If you fish from a boat, they stop and inspect, they have never stepped on my dock, not say they can't, but I think its too much trouble for them.
