Very nice and great choice on optiks.

My best rifle is a pistol. It is a Savage 510 Striker action with a custom mid-grip Russo built stock, Chambered in 300WSM with a 20" Kriger heavy barrel. That thing launches a 180gr SMK at 3000fps and with a unproven load with cheep bullets and brass has pulled a 7" group at 1000 yards.

Looks like it has the very best of everything; including its own comfortable chair!

120 BT...chrond @3500 fps....and it smokes a deer....looks like a lightning bolt when hit...I do a neck shot most of the time...The 257 was Roy Weatherby's favorite rifle rnd...mine too!I just don't care for the newer Weatherby rifles..I have been quite satisfied with the classic Winchester '70..love the trigger and the boss....

    Great Willie-

I did some research for an article I did on the 257 Wby, treated as a wildcat. the MarkV action was rebarreled with a 28" fairly heavy taper and the chamber had minimum throat. To use brass that had pressure symptoms consistent with other cartridges, I reformed WW Super 264 win Mag cases. With 870 and a 120 gr bullet I could get 3600 fps easily and for a versatile load I cut it back a few grains to 3400 fps. The publisher insisted that I was running pressures waaay up and refused to accept the piece.

Nice to know I wasn't alone in getting velocities that exceed "published" data.[:)]

The Hart Match grade barrel is 26 plus the boss, which makes it a little long for woods hunting, but excellent for road shooting!I shoot the Weatherby Ammo that has the continuous numbers mfg by Norma...the 117 is even faster...the groups are un believable..

I recall one experiment that I did with the rifle. I loaded a bunch of powder behind a 60 grain Hornady bullet- designed for the .25-20. I shot one over the chronograph and it registered 4500+fps. but the bullet disintegrated before it got to the target 100 yards away. with a 1-10 twist, that bullet was pulling some rpms. I only did it once.

I'm surprised it didn't melt the screens on the way through![:D]

My all around finest shooter is my Armalite AR-10T, match triggers, I put a
ACOG TA55A, I love this gun, my best rimfire is a cz452, it was so accurate out of the box, it really surprised me.
